npr.org Goes Mobile
A couple of weeks ago, one of the NPR (National Public Radio, in the US) podcasts promoted the "mobile" version of their services. I visited (of course), and discovered that the site provided links to the mobile services of several local stations. That was interesting, but scarcely worth using some of the limited promotional time.
They've fixed it. Now NPR Mobile has some value, with things like finding a local station (what? scanning 88.5 through 92 doesn't work?) as well as audio content. Hooray! By the way, it is a web service with call links for audio content, exploiting some of the unique capabilities of mobile and providing strong device compatibility.
As enabler Crisp Wireless CEO Boris Fridmann noted to FierceMobileContent, this is a strong brand with almost no teenage demographic. Also note that Crisp has taken such companies as USA Today, Fandango (movie tickets), and American Idol. They've been important in mobile content since 1999.
