Call for Speaker Recommendations: Design for Mobile 2009

We're putting together the program for Design For Mobile 2009, and we want to know what you want. In general, I ask speakers to be sure to teach me something: we don't want "intro to mobile design" fifteen times.

  1. What topic do you really want to see covered at the conference? By what type of expert?
  2. Who do you think would be a great expert? May we have an introduction please?

We are especially looking for fascinating academic research, speakers from inside Asian markets, and good speakers outside the current conference circuit. Please add suggestions in the comments, or email me directly.

I was wondering if you thought offering a session delegates on proper ergonomics for delegates. I can imagine that sitting all day long has created some interested problems with posture and muscle imbalances. If you are interested in such a topic please contact me and I would be happy to come and present a session at your upcoming conference.

If you want a terrific keynote about overcoming challenges to reach your goals – (perfect for these crazy economic times) check out the video in this website.

One of my speakers, published author Edie Raether, is a phenomenal and entertaining speaker.

One of the programs I’d suggest for a successful conference would be:

The buying minds of your prospects are changing – are you? Does your marketing message attract, engage and persuade? ................

Hey folks? This is a mobile design conference. I want folks expert in mobile of some flavor, and design or user research of some flavor … or closely related disciplines. We’re not paying $10k for a keynote.

I am an economics professor with a specialty in Southeast Asia and a reasonably priced speaker. I have 3 topics that may be of use and interest to your group.
The first is on the economy and where things are going in an entertaining and useful way. This was even useful to financial planners this fall. I literally update until the last minute.
The second session is on the Key and Essential Documents we need as adults. I explain things like wills, trusts and letter of instruction and how to get organized. I do not sell any products – I give people the tools they need to start planning immediately. The sessions are completely different and could be offered at the same conference.
I can also give your group an “Asian tour” if they want to learn more about Asian issues. I can do country/culture talks on Japan, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. I lived in Asia most of my adult life.
Please let me know if you’d like more.
Happy Holidays!
Kindest regards,
Mary

Good luck finding a good speaker then!

Barbara, you probably can’t afford Don Norman, but I see his ideas about the return of the “command line” starting to show up in cutting edge mobile products like Palm’s just-announced webOS. I’m so frustrated with the state of the mobile GUI that I would drive to Lawrence in April just to see a session on this. And if you’re really desperate I’d even be willing to present on it myself! My credentials including writing long blog posts about the mobile CLI and working on developing one in my non-existent free time! ;-)

Barbara on 12 January 2009 - 10:41a.m.

David, I agree about not affording Don Norman. But I also agree (and I think I’ve commented on your blog) about CLIs, and talk about them frequently. I’m even testing out Ubiquity for Firefox these days. Maybe somebody from Tegic/Nuance about Tegic Discovery Engine?

David Beers on 15 January 2009 - 2:24p.m.

Oh, yes… somebody from Nuance would be great. Heh, I guess the trick to staying in budget is to avoid the ones who make a living speaking and find the ones who’d all but pay you for a captive audience!
