.Mobi Missing in Action

It's another iPhone invisible affordance: pressing and holding the .com autocomplete reveals three other top level domains, .net, .edu, and .org. Where's .mobi? What this an intentional choice - an assumption that mobile Safari is a "full" browser? If so, why the plethora of iPhone-optimized sites? It can't be a complete overlook; if you actually type in ".mobi" it won't render the page shrunk, but full size. Where were the dotMobi folks with all this?
