the gender gap in European smart phones

I'm a little late catching this, but this M:Metrics/comScore press release is really interesting.
The "smart phone" use is somewhat interesting, but misleading. They're defining smart phone as 'a device running the Windows, Palm or Symbian operating system. There are several devices like the Palm Centro and Nokia N75 that fit into that category but aren't marketed as such; we should expect customers to use devices accordingly. There are also all those Blackberries out there. Apparently they aren't smart. Then leave the US shores and find Linux devices. Also not smart.
But the gender splits were fascinating! Over twice as many male smartphone users as female, and worse for the iPhone. Is this because even the "pretty" smart phones are ugly or large? Or is pink (more pink) really that important?

This is a fascinating topic. Just a few weeks ago, I saw a study that had discovered that women are smarter users of mobile phones! Women are more familiar with the features and available services than men. This was in Sweden. Here are the main points of the study:
