Device Manufacturers

You have a brand to maintain, but the operators want their share. Operators push you on both price and user interface. Your major revenue comes from sales: both purchase and re-purchase, and that's just when the operator loses money. In many ways, your goals and the operators' goals do not coincide.

User experience can enhance your brand or diminish it, no matter what your basic strategy, cost leadership, features, or style. And the user experience includes device features, physical design, OS user interface, and even third party web sites and applications.

Little Springs Design addresses strategy and design for each of these customer touch points. We understand goals of third party developers and can help you support them, making your own brand more sticky. Our deep knowledge of the mobile industry combined with device-centered interaction design can help you improve user experience while simultaneously reducing the friction between you and the operators.

High Level Design

This is where products start to come to life: blueprints, page renderings, and information architecture that communicate to the management team what the product really is. Behind the scenes, we design user interaction. How will users accomplish key goals? How will they understand application organization? Where will key features reside? What information sources are needed? How will advertising be supported? What does the application look like? We answer these questions and more.

Deliverables include screen flows, content strategy, device rendering strategy, wireframes, visual language, sample icons, and key screens.

Detailed Design

Once the conceptual design is complete, accepted by the project sponsor, and verified as achievable by the developers, the detailed work begins. Now each screen is considered and every flow is specified. All edge cases are handled. The result is a user interface specification document, usable for coding and testing.

We are comfortable designing for a variety of device environments.

Application Integration

Your native operating system contains messaging, contacts, settings, and so forth, but you may have a third party browser, KVM, and media player. These have both carrier requirements and requirements derived from the target content. Too often, these applications are added without understanding the content that will go in them; the result is Java applications that behave very poorly. We'll help you modify the third party software to best integrate with your environment.

Usability & User Testing

Emulator or device, laboratory or field, formal or informal: testing your device with users enables better design and development decisions. Early testing facilitates iterative design; late testing enables benchmarking. We can help.
